Bariatric electric podiatry treatment chair

Description

The Plinth 2000 Bariatric Podiatry Chair with Split Legs - Electric Tilting is a heavy-duty, electrically operated bariatric chair designed specifically for podiatry and lower-limb treatments in clinically obese and heavy patients. With a safe working load and lifting capacity of up to 320 kg (50 stone), it combines electric height and tilt adjustment, motorised backrest, divided and extending leg sections, and full hoist access. High-density fire retardant foam, contoured upholstery and hardwearing anti-microbial Ambla vinyl provide comfort, hygiene and durability. Robust retractable castors and an adjustable foot for uneven floors ensure safe positioning and easy mobility, while the chair can be set fully horizontal for patient recovery in emergencies.

Bnefits

  • High lifting capacity of up to 320 kg (50 stone) to safely accommodate bariatric and clinically obese patients.
  • Electric height and tilt adjustment enables safe and efficient patient positioning while reducing manual handling for clinicians.
  • Motorised backrest (0° to +90°) and divided, angle-adjustable leg sections provide excellent access for podiatry and lower-limb procedures.
  • Full hoist access and 13 cm (5") clearance under the frame facilitate safe transfers using mobile hoists.
  • Contoured upholstery with high-density, fire retardant foam and anti-microbial vinyl maximises comfort and infection control.
  • Robust retractable castors provide excellent mobility and stability, allowing easy room reconfiguration or cleaning.
  • Adjustable foot for uneven floors helps maintain a stable treatment platform in varied clinical environments.
  • Chair can be placed in a horizontal couch position to support patient recovery or emergency management if required.
  • Unique lifetime frame guarantee and low running costs reflect durable UK manufacture and long service life.
  • Available in a wide range of vinyl colours with a full choice of accessories for customisation to clinic needs.

Indications

  • Podiatry clinics treating bariatric or clinically obese patients requiring safe lower-limb access.
  • Hospital and community departments needing a high-capacity podiatry/treatment chair for heavy patients.
  • Settings where electric height, tilt and backrest adjustment are needed to minimise manual handling risks.
  • Leg ulcer, wound care and vascular clinics requiring secure, adjustable positioning of larger patients.
  • General outpatient or multidisciplinary clinics that require bariatric-capable seating for foot and lower-leg procedures.

Composition

  • Heavy-duty steel frame designed for bariatric loads with hoist clearance of approximately 13 cm (5").
  • High density, fire retardant foam padding for seat, backrest and leg sections.
  • Hardwearing, fully washable and fire-retardant Ambla vinyl upholstery with anti-microbial properties.
  • Electric actuators for height adjustment, tilt (including Trendelenburg) and motorised backrest.
  • Divided and extending leg sections with mechanical angle adjustment.
  • Robust retractable castors and an adjustable foot to compensate for uneven floors.
  • Swing-back, adjustable armrests for improved patient access and transfers.

Formulation

  • Electrically powered bariatric podiatry chair with split-leg configuration.
  • Electric height adjustment from approximately 48 cm (19") to 99 cm (39") at the seat.
  • Motorised Trendelenburg tilt and motorised backrest adjustment from 0° (flat) to +90° (upright).
  • Divided footrests/leg sections with angle adjustment from approximately -90° to +35° (or -35° to +35° depending on variant).
  • Overall dimensions around 181–183 cm (71–72") length and 78 cm (31") width, providing a wide treatment surface.

Packaging

  • Supplied as a fully assembled or largely pre-assembled bariatric podiatry chair, typically delivered on a pallet or via specialist furniture courier.
  • Includes divided, extending leg sections, motorised backrest and electric tilt/height mechanisms as standard.
  • Fitted with retractable castors, adjustable foot and swing-back armrests as part of the main structure.
  • Configured in the selected vinyl colour from the Plinth Medical Ambla colour range.
  • May be delivered with installation and positioning guidance where ordered via certain distributors.

Usage

  • Position the chair on a firm, level surface; use the adjustable foot to compensate for any uneven flooring and ensure all castors are in the locked, non-mobile position during treatment.
  • Connect the chair to a suitable mains power supply as specified by the manufacturer and check that all electric functions (height, tilt, backrest) operate smoothly before first use.
  • Use the hand or foot control (depending on configuration) to adjust height and tilt, bringing the chair to a safe working height and angle before seating or transferring the patient.
  • Position the patient with appropriate support, then adjust the motorised backrest between 0° and +90° and the divided leg sections within their angle range to achieve optimal access to the feet and lower legs.
  • For transfers using a hoist, use the 13 cm (5") hoist clearance beneath the frame and follow all relevant manual handling and hoist manufacturer protocols.
  • When not moving the chair, ensure retractable castors are in the safe, braked position; use castors only when repositioning or cleaning around the chair.
  • Clean vinyl surfaces between patients with approved detergents and disinfectants, following infection-control policies and manufacturer cleaning instructions.
  • Periodically inspect the frame, upholstery, electrical cables and controls for wear or damage, and arrange servicing or repairs through Plinth Medical or an authorised service provider as required.

Contraindications

  • Do not use with patients whose weight exceeds the stated maximum lifting capacity of 320 kg (50 stone).
  • Do not operate the chair if there is visible damage to the frame, upholstery, electric actuators, power cable or controls.
  • Not suitable for use in environments where the electrical classification and ingress protection of the chair do not meet local requirements (e.g. certain high-risk theatre or wet-room environments), unless explicitly approved by local regulations and the manufacturer.
  • Patients who cannot be safely positioned or restrained in a tilting chair without risk of sliding or falling should only be treated with additional safety measures or alternative equipment.
  • Use of the Trendelenburg tilt should follow clinical guidelines and may be contraindicated in some patients with cardiovascular, respiratory or intracranial conditions unless medically justified.

Adverse Effects

  • Improper use (e.g. not locking castors, exceeding weight limit, incorrect positioning) may result in chair instability, patient slipping or falls and potential injury to patient or staff.
  • Use of tilt and Trendelenburg positions may cause dizziness, discomfort or exacerbation of certain medical conditions in sensitive patients.
  • Prolonged sitting or lying without appropriate pressure care may increase the risk of discomfort or pressure-related skin issues, particularly in very heavy or immobile patients.
  • Electrical or mechanical failure during movement could cause abrupt position changes; regular maintenance and inspection reduce this risk.

Storage Conditions

  • Keep installed in a dry, indoor clinical environment, away from excessive humidity, direct water jets and corrosive chemicals.
  • Disconnect from mains power if the chair will not be used for extended periods and protect the power cable from damage.
  • Clean upholstery regularly and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight that may prematurely age the vinyl.
  • Do not store heavy items on the chair or use it as a general-purpose platform when not in clinical use.

Duration

Not applicable as a medical device in the sense of treatment time; the chair is used for the duration of podiatry or clinical appointments as determined by the clinician.

Onset

Not applicable; this is a furniture and positioning device rather than a pharmacological treatment.
