Electric lumbar and cervical traction table with traction machine and flexion stool

Description

The Plinth 2000 Traction Table (Electric) Including Traction Machine & Flexion Stool is a UK-manufactured lumbar and cervical traction system based on the Plinth Medical Model 502T traction table. It features an electric variable-height rolling-top couch designed to maximise the effectiveness of static and intermittent lumbar and cervical traction, supplied as a complete package with traction machine table, traction unit and flexion stool, together with lumbar and cervical harness sets, mast and spreader bar. The couch uses a friction-free rolling top, comfort foam and hardwearing anti-microbial vinyl upholstery, with a safe working load of approximately 250 kg, retractable castors and 130 mm hoist clearance, and is intended for intensive physiotherapy and musculoskeletal clinical environments.

Bnefits

  • Complete lumbar and cervical traction system supplied as a package comprising electric traction table, traction machine and flexion stool
  • Designed specifically for lumbar traction, cervical traction in lying and cervical traction in sitting procedures
  • Friction-free rolling top maximises the effectiveness and accuracy of applied traction forces for both static and intermittent traction
  • Electric height adjustment allowing low patient transfer height and optimal working height for clinicians
  • Available with hydraulic or electric operation; this configuration is the electric version for easier height adjustment and low running costs
  • Comfort foam padding to enhance patient comfort during prolonged traction sessions
  • Hardwearing, fully washable, fire-retardant anti-microbial vinyl upholstery, available in a wide range of colours
  • Safe working load specified at approximately 250 kg, supporting a broad range of patient sizes
  • Retractable castors for easy manoeuvrability within the clinic while maintaining stability during use
  • Hoist clearance of around 130 mm, allowing compatibility with many mobile hoist systems
  • Supplied as standard with lumbar and cervical harness set, mast and spreader bar, and traction machine table designed to accept common traction units
  • Breathing hole and plug provided for prone treatments and improved patient positioning
  • Lifetime frame guarantee and 5-year parts guarantee with a typical quoted service life of around 16 years in clinical use
  • Manufactured in the UK by an ISO-audited company with CE and UKCA marked medical devices
  • Low maintenance and low running costs due to robust engineering and simple electric actuation

Indications

  • Lumbar spinal traction procedures for the management of certain low back pain and radicular symptoms when prescribed by a qualified clinician
  • Cervical traction in lying and sitting positions for selected neck and upper limb conditions where traction is indicated
  • Use in physiotherapy and musculoskeletal clinics for conservative management of spinal disorders under professional supervision
  • Use in hospitals, outpatient departments and rehabilitation centres as part of a wider physical therapy programme
  • Situations where precise, reproducible traction forces and patient positioning are required in a safe, controlled manner

Composition

  • Heavy-duty welded steel base and column frame engineered for intensive clinical use
  • Four-section or multi-part top with friction-free rolling centre section to permit longitudinal translation under traction load
  • High-density comfort foam padding to all patient-contact surfaces
  • Hardwearing, fire-retardant, anti-microbial Ambla-type vinyl upholstery available in multiple colour options
  • Electric actuator(s) providing variable-height adjustment from approximately 47 cm to 97 cm (18–38 inches)
  • Integrated platform-mounted traction machine table with adjustable mast and spreader bar for the traction unit
  • Standard lumbar and cervical harness sets for traction application
  • Retractable castor system for mobility, with an adjustable stabilising foot for use on uneven floors
  • Breathing hole and plug fitted as standard to the head section
  • Flexion stool supplied as part of the package for positioning during lumbar traction

Formulation

  • Electric variable-height traction couch with friction-free rolling top designed to translate smoothly under traction force
  • Table surface segmented into head, rolling mid-section and lower section for optimal patient positioning in lumbar and cervical traction
  • Electric height adjustment operated via hand or foot control (model dependent) to position the table between approximately 47 cm and 97 cm in height
  • Traction machine mounted on an integrated traction machine table with adjustable mast and spreader bar to set rope angle and direction
  • Harness system applied to the patient’s pelvis or occiput, connected via ropes and spreader bar to the traction unit to deliver static or intermittent traction as prescribed
  • Retractable castors engaged only when the table is unoccupied and needs to be moved; castors retracted and stabilising foot adjusted for treatment
  • System designed as a Class I medical device for application of controlled spinal traction in a supervised clinical environment

Usage

  • Install the traction table on a firm, level surface in a suitable clinical room with adequate space around all sides for patient transfer and therapist access.
  • Adjust the stabilising foot and retract the castors so that the table is stable and cannot move before any patient gets on or off.
  • Connect the electric table to an appropriate earthed mains power outlet, ensuring power cables are undamaged and routed to avoid trip hazards.
  • Mount the traction machine securely on the traction machine table, attach the mast and spreader bar as per the traction unit and table user manuals, and check that all clamps and knobs are tightened.
  • Select and fit the appropriate lumbar or cervical harness for the patient, ensuring correct sizing, symmetrical positioning and comfortable but secure fastening before connecting to the traction ropes.
  • Use the electric height adjustment to bring the table to a low position for patient transfer, assist the patient onto the couch, then raise to a safe working height once they are positioned.
  • For lumbar traction, position the patient supine with pelvic and thoracic harnesses as recommended in the user manual; for cervical traction, position the patient either supine with occipital harness or seated with cervical harness and flexion stool as indicated.
  • Set the required traction parameters (force, hold/rest times, mode and total treatment time) on the traction machine according to the prescribing clinician’s instructions and the traction machine’s own operating manual.
  • Start the traction programme and observe the patient closely during the first few minutes, regularly checking comfort, harness position and symptoms; stop the treatment immediately if the patient experiences increased pain, dizziness, numbness or any adverse effects.
  • At the end of treatment, release traction tension gradually, return the table to a neutral position and lower the height as necessary before assisting the patient to sit and then stand.
  • After each treatment, clean all upholstery surfaces and harness contact areas using warm water and neutral detergent, followed by a wipe with clean water and thorough drying.
  • For infection control or after contact with bodily fluids, decontaminate the couch and harnesses using an approved dilute hypochlorite solution (up to 10,000 ppm available chlorine) in line with local protocols, then rinse and dry.
  • Inspect harnesses, ropes, mast, spreader bar, electrical cables and moving parts regularly for wear or damage, and remove the table from service if any safety-critical component is compromised.
  • Arrange periodic servicing and safety checks (typically annually) by a suitably qualified engineer in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Storage Conditions

  • Operate and store the traction table in a dry indoor clinical environment within the temperature and humidity limits specified by the manufacturer.
  • Disconnect the table and traction machine from the mains supply before long-term storage, maintenance or cleaning of electrical components.
  • Avoid exposure of the upholstery to strong solvents, abrasive cleaners or unapproved disinfectants that may degrade the vinyl or foam.
  • Do not store or use the equipment in areas containing flammable anaesthetic gases or in explosive atmospheres.
  • Keep the area around the table free from clutter so that castors, height adjustment and traction components can move freely and safely.
