Description

The Welch Allyn Desk Charger with 2 Lithium Ion Handles (SKU 71734) is a universal desk/well charging unit supplied with two rechargeable 3.5 V lithium-ion power handles. Designed for use with Welch Allyn otoscope, ophthalmoscope and other 3.5 V and 2.5 V diagnostic instrument heads, the compact desktop charger provides convenient \drop-in\ charging and storage. Advanced internal circuitry ensures automatic, safe charging and optimum lamp performance and battery life, while coloured LED indicators show that mains power is present and that the handles are charging or fully charged. This configuration is supplied as HANDLES ONLY – NO HEADS – making it suitable as a base and handle replacement or expansion unit for existing Welch Allyn diagnostic sets in clinics, hospitals, and primary care practices.

Usage

Intended for professional use in clinical environments.
1. Place the desk charger on a stable, dry, horizontal surface near a suitable mains power outlet.
2. Connect the supplied mains power cord to the charger and plug it into the appropriate AC outlet as per regional electrical standards.
3. Verify that the power LED illuminates, indicating that the charger is receiving power.
4. To charge a handle, insert the Welch Allyn rechargeable power handle vertically into one of the charging wells until it is seated securely.
5. Observe the coloured LED indicators associated with each well; an illuminated LED confirms that the handle is correctly seated and charging (indicator behaviour may vary slightly by model – refer to the included instructions).
6. Leave the handles in the charger when not in use so that they remain fully charged and ready for clinical examinations.
7. The unit is compatible with Welch Allyn 3.5 V and 2.5 V rechargeable NiCad and Lithium Ion handles, and PocketScope handles when used with the appropriate adapter as specified in the manufacturer’s catalogue; always check compatibility before use.
8. Optional wall-mount kits and specula/accessory trays may be used if supplied separately; follow the installation instructions provided with those accessories.
9. Clean the exterior surfaces of the charger and handles periodically with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution or approved disinfectant; do not immerse the unit or handles in liquid and do not autoclave.
10. If the charger or handles appear damaged, fail to charge, or show abnormal heating, remove them from service and contact the supplier or Welch Allyn technical support.

Contraindications

Do not use the charger or handles if they show visible damage (e.g. cracked housing, exposed wiring, damaged power cord).
Do not use in the presence of flammable anaesthetics or in oxygen-enriched environments where non-approved electrical equipment is contraindicated.
Not intended for home use by patients unless specifically instructed and supplied as part of a supervised home-care programme.
Do not connect non-compatible devices or third-party handles that are not specified as compatible by Welch Allyn.

Adverse Effects

As an electrical accessory, no direct patient adverse effects are expected when used correctly; however, improper use, damage or unauthorised modification could lead to electrical shock, burns, fire hazard or device malfunction.
Failure to keep handles adequately charged could indirectly impact clinical care by reducing availability of illuminated diagnostic instruments.
Excessive heat generation, unusual odours or noise from the charger or handles indicate malfunction and require immediate removal from service.

Storage Conditions
